Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) Mode allows the gateway to operate as a wireless access point, broadcasting an SSID that nearby devices can connect to for local access and configuration.
By default, AP Mode is active when the gateway starts, so users can connect to the Web UI for initial setup without a wired LAN connection. If a WAN connection is available, devices connected to the AP can also share the gateway’s Internet access.
Key Concepts
AP Mode (Access Point Mode): The gateway operates as a Wi-Fi access point, broadcasting an SSID that nearby devices can connect to for local access and configuration.
Client Mode: The gateway acts as a Wi-Fi client, connecting to an existing wireless network (Wi-Fi WAN interface) to gain Internet access.
Connect to the Gateway Wi-Fi
- Power on the gateway. The Wi-Fi LAN interface starts in AP mode by default.
- Find the gateway SSID.
- The default SSID format is gateway-model_XXXX, where XXXX represents the last two bytes of the gateway’s MAC address.
- On your laptop or mobile device, open the Wi-Fi list and locate the SSID.
- Connect to the SSID.
No password is required for the initial connection.
4. Access the Web UI.
- Open a web browser and enter: 192.168.230.1.
- Log in to the gateway’s Web UI.
On the first login, you must set a login password before you can continue. Password requirements:
- At least 12 characters long
- Has at least one special character (!“#$%&\‘()*+,-./:;<=>?@[]^_{|}~)
- Has at least one number
- Has at least one standard Latin letter (used in the English alphabet)
Wi-Fi Settings
If you need to modify the default AP configuration, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Network > LAN > Wi-Fi.
- Click Settings to open the configuration page.
- Adjust the parameters as needed for your deployment:
- Enable/Disable: Enable or disable the Wi-Fi LAN interface.
- Channel: Set the Wi-Fi channel. The default is Auto, which allows the gateway to automatically choose the optimal channel.
- (E)SSID: Define the SSID for the wireless AP.
- Encryption: Select the encryption type for the Wi-Fi AP.
- Key: Set the Wi-Fi password for the wireless access point. This option is available when an encryption method is selected.
- Hidden: Enable this option to hide the SSID, making the AP invisible to devices scanning for networks (manual entry required to connect).
- Click Save to apply the configuration.
