how to configure country code on rak lorawan gateways for rf compliance

Learn how to configure the Country Code on RAK LoRaWAN gateways to ensure RF compliance and automatically apply the correct frequency plan.

This feature simplifies the process of aligning your gateway’s settings with local radio regulations by automatically adjusting the allowed transmission power and enabling Listen Before Talk (LBT) when required.
By selecting your country and region, the gateway applies the appropriate parameters for LoRaWAN operation, ensuring both performance and legal compliance.

This guide walks you through the configuration process in WisGateOS 2 and explains how to handle regional variations, including what to do when your country is not listed.

🗒️
NOTE

This feature is supported in Packet Forwarder and Built-in Network Server modes. It is not available in Basics™ Station mode, as the frequency plan is managed directly by the LNS.

FAQs

  1. What if my country is not listed?
Select a compatible region that complies with your local RF regulations.
  2. Can I manually select a region instead of choosing a country?
Yes. If you do not select a country, you can configure the region directly. However, using the Country Code Setting is recommended for accuracy.
  3. Why is the Country Code Setting unavailable in Basics™ Station mode?
In Basics™ Station mode, the frequency plan is managed by the LoRaWAN® Network Server (LNS) rather than the gateway.
  4. Can I change the country after saving?
Yes. Click Change your country and reselect the correct country or region.
  5. I have already set a Country Code, but now I want to manually configure the region. How can I do that?
If the gateway has been configured with a Country Code, the Region field is locked to match the selected country.
To return to manual region configuration:
  • Change the gateway’s work mode to Basics™ Station (BS)and save the change.
  • Then switch back to Packet Forwarder or Built-in Network Server mode.
  • The previously saved Country Code will be cleared, and the Region field will become available for manual configuration.
