Registering your RAK gateway in TTN v3 enables it to forward LoRaWAN® traffic to and from the network, acting as the bridge between your end devices and the cloud. This guide focuses only on the gateway registration process, which is the first essential step in bringing your gateway online.
This process applies to all RAK gateways, ranging from compact indoor models like the RAK7266 Soho Lite to industrial-grade outdoor options like the RAK7285 WisGate Edge Ultra.
Steps to Register a RAK Gateway in TTN v3
1. Log in to TTN v3 Console
Go to the TTN v3 console and select the appropriate network cluster (EU, NAM, or AU) based on your gateway’s location. Then, log in to your account.
If you don’t have an account yet, sign up and choose the cluster that matches your deployment region.
2. Register a New Gateway
Navigate to the Gateways section and click + Register gateway.
3. Enter the Gateway EUI
Retrieve the Gateway EUI from your RAK gateway. You can find it either:
On the device label marked GWEUI
In the Web UI under Dashboard > Overview
Enter the EUI into the form and click Confirm.
4. Complete the Gateway Details
Fill in the following fields:
Gateway ID - a unique identifier for your gateway
Gateway name - a descriptive name for easy reference
Frequency plan - select the correct frequency based on your gateway’s region.
5. Finish the Gateway Registration
Click Register gateway to complete the setup.
Your RAK gateway is now registered in TTN v3. To complete the setup and start forwarding LoRaWAN traffic, proceed with one of the following connection methods based on your gateway’s configuration:
- Set up CUPS using Basics™ Station (CUPS)
- Set up LNS using Basics™ Station (LNS)
- Connect using Semtech UDP
FAQs
1. Can I register a deleted gateway again?
Yes. The Gateway EUI can be reused, but the Gateway ID is retained and must be changed when re-registering.
2. What should I do if the gateway shows as disconnected after registration?
You need to configure the gateway to use a supported packet forwarder method (e.g., Semtech UDP or Basics Station) so it can communicate with TTN.
3. Can I register my gateway to a different cluster than my region?
Yes, you can register your gateway to any TTN cluster (e.g., using the EU1 cluster for a gateway in Australia). However, this may increase latency and reduce reliability. It’s recommended to use the cluster closest to your physical deployment for optimal performance.
4. How do I fix it if I selected the wrong network cluster during registration?
Update the gateway’s server address to match the cluster you selected during registration.
