Deploy your RAK9155 Battery Plus with confidence. Learn essential setup steps to ensure reliable off-grid LoRaWAN® gateway power from day one.
The RAK9155 Battery Plus is purpose-built for remote and off-grid LoRaWAN gateway deployments. This solar-powered unit delivers dependable energy even in the harshest environments. But before you head out for field installation, there are a few critical steps to ensure smooth operation from the start.
Battery Charge Level Upon Delivery
For safety and regulatory compliance, the RAK Battery Plus ships with 30% or less charge. Depending on the shipping duration or storage conditions at the distribution partners, the battery may arrive fully depleted.
Step 1: Check the Battery Charge Level
Before deployments, verify the battery's current charge level:
1. Connect the Battery Plus to a compatible RAK Gateway using the provided power cable.
2. Log in to the WisGateOS 2 Web UI.
3. Navigate to Extensions > Extension Gallery.
4. Install the Battery Plus Extension. For details, read the WisGateOS 2 Extensions user manual.
5. After installation, go to the Installed tab, click Launch, and check the State of Charge.
- If the charge level is above 30–50%, the Battery Plus is ready for deployment.
- If the charge level is below 30%, it must be charged before use.
Step 2: Charge the Battery Plus
To charge the unit before deployment, use the Service Power Adapter for Battery Plus, a dedicated AC/DC adapter with the correct connector.
The Service Power Adapter is not included by default. It must be purchased separately.
To charge the battery:
- Plug the service power adapter into one of the two solar panel input ports on the Battery Plus.
- Connect the adapter to an AC power outlet.
- Press the power button on the Battery Plus to turn it on.
If you do not press the power button, the Battery Plus will only pass through power from the PV input to the output; the battery will not charge.
Step 3: Monitor Charging Progress
While the battery is connected to a RAK Gateway, you can continue to monitor the charge level using the Battery Plus Extension in WisGateOS 2.
- A full charge typically takes several hours.
- For optimal performance, fully charge the Battery Plus to 100% before its first field deployment.
Final Tips for Deployment Success
- Always verify charge status before field deployment.
- For solar-only setups, ensure solar panels are properly angled and positioned for optimal sunlight exposure and charging.
